FUELS MANAGEMENT
Get to Know Us
The Naches Fuels Program organization is comprised of the GS-8/9 Fuels AFMO, the GS-8 Senior Fuels Tech and GS-6/7 Fuels Tech, and the 10-person Fuels Module with a GS-8 Captain, GS-6/7 Asst. Captain, two GS-5/6 Squad leaders, and six temp 1039 firefighters.
The Fuels Program manages a diverse year-round workload consisting of both prescribed fire and mechanical hazardous fuels reduction project planning and implementation. And with the recent addition of the Okanogan Wenatchee NF to the national priority landscapes, our program has received much needed support and funding for current and future planning and implementation efforts. We currently have several active project areas with prescribed fire and mechanical hazardous fuels reduction implementation activities that are planned or ongoing. Our prescribed fire program consists of landscape underburning that typically occurs from late-Spring through early-Fall and pile burning that occurs after the start of Fall and runs through the Winter months. Our mechanical fuels reduction program consists of hand thinning, hazardous fuels mastication, and shaded fuel break projects that are primarily completed by contractors.
